Anyone else get a pre-ad for the Canaan MTB Festival or is my device spying on me again?

ParticipantI’m going to bid on the contract for that Park Service study on Trollheim.
After 80k study, we determined that the Trollheim is slippery and people fall there lots. We recommend further study.

It was nice to see Ranger Aaron LaRocca in the news clip. Unless I’m totally misremembering, I met him during the demo day for the Alexandria Bicycle Campus and he was super nice.

“Demolition” work was completed in record time. Sadly, demolition was not what we got to do. Instead, we removed 74 parking curbs, rebar holding the curbs in place, patched holes and cleaned up the space. Next spring, WABA will be looking for volunteers to stripe roads and crosswalks at the bike campus.

Yep, it’s the same guy! I recognized him, too, from the bike campus demo day (back row of last photo on Casey’s post).
On a related note, did WABA ever respond to your update request (on Twitter) on their Spring 2017 plans to resurface (paint over) the lot so it’s ready to be painted with wonderful and colorful bike-training lines? I, too, am looking forward to helping out with that!

Radio silence from WABA on Twitter on the Bike Campus. I think Casey I heard Casey Kane say he had some info. Hope they speak up still because if it’s something like a money issue, I’d be willing to help out.

I talked with Dan from WABA at the Carlyle pit stop on BTWD. Work should be happening relatively soon on the bike campus. Dan was working on getting an in-kind donation to cover the costs of sealing the pavement. NPS still needs to take away the concrete bumpers that were uprooted last fall.

ParticipantGood to hear; I’m looking forward to getting that next step complete.

I’m sure a couple of us would gladly take those off their hands for use in protecting key bike lane locations

ParticipantTook a ride through the Roosevelt Island parking lot to see the improvements, and they did a good job!
At the bottom of the ramp from Custis Trail; the post in front looks like it will be a new bike/ped counter
The crossing is at grade with the trail
Pano at what used to be a horrible 90 degree turn
Looking north from the end of the parking lot

ParticipantOne thing that would be helpful would be markings or signs instructing people on foot to stay right. I encountered two consecutive groups of walkers today walking on the wrong side. During busy times this could get hairy.

Please, please, please tell this to NPS. We may still have an opportunity to get these in. At the very least, they have 2 educational signs (the white plastic things) that they can put posters in — they’ve had information about the remodel in there, and I believe they’re blank now. They could put in large “Stay right, unless passing” signs until they need those for something else.

That’s me in the first pic (red shorts). I saw you taking these and wondered if it were you. Should have stopped. A belated hello anyway. Agree they did a good job. At first I thought putting the crossing where the big oak obscures the NB line of sight was a bad idea, but the stop signs mitigate that, as long as everyone pays attention and is careful. Ha ha.
