ParticipantThere have been a few other threads in the past, but not too many posts recently, even with the new draft plan.

It’s a great plan, but no one knows how much of it will ever be implemented. It’s intended to be a collection of proposals. The idea that has generated the most controversy is the congestion pricing for downtown D.C. Not as much press about all the new cycle tracks on the proposed map.
A better path up Connecticut Ave. would be great. I tried to ride up to the zoo a few weeks ago. What a terrible route for cycling, heading from downtown up Connecticut Ave.

ParticipantI am pretty excited about it. Though of course I will almost certainly be retired before most of it is built. IF they do all those cycle tracks, and do them well, DC will be close to the top ranked Euro cities I guess (so presumably they will have moved ahead meanwhile?) Meanwhile I’m interested in the things they hope to do earlier – a better connection from the 15th street cycle track to the Jefferson Memorial sticks in my mind as one they had listed for the early tier, that would help a bunch of people immensely.

ParticipantI’m also excited about the proposal. And I LOVE the congestion pricing scheme. It probably won’t survive, but that’s okay. Tax people are sneaky. Next we’ll suggest larding a hefty surtax on downtown parking lots! That and more speed cameras along arterials (calibrated to ticket near the 25mph speed limit this time!) and we’ll still get the tax base.

ParticipantCycletracks everywhere!
Related-ish: http://www.wired.com/2014/06/wuwt-traffic-induced-demand/
Whenever some city proposes taking lanes away from a road, residents scream that they’re going to create a huge traffic snarl. But the data shows that nothing truly terrible happens. The amount of traffic on the road simply readjusts and overall congestion doesn’t really increase.

I would venture to guess that just charging for parking at federal agencies would go a long way in this direction…

ParticipantAnd I thought of another idea to add to the list: connection between Chain Bridge and the CCT.
While I’m on it, a better connection between the Key Bridge and the CCT would be awesome.

ParticipantThat would be between the Key Bridge and the CCT. I normally toss my bike over the railing and repel down the bridge support to Water Street.
