The Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail began work yesterday to remove silt and vegetation from the trail between Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and Memorial Bridge. Volunteers are addressing drainage issues that cause persistent standing water on the trail as part of the work. We are also removing English ivy and other invasives in the work area.

Part of the trail that’s currently covered on the western edge. It’s about a foot. Work hasn’t begun on this side yet.

A former persistent puddle now drains off the trail.
