*shrug* I always found it useful. The Annandale High School track team (go Atoms!) used that all the time to get over to Wakefield Park and the trail around Lake Accotink. The only other way was through North Springfield and Hemming Ave.

The Bridge to Nowhere on the Custis can be useful. I was running on the trail near there a couple years ago, and got the dreaded rumbling in the lower gut that signals an imminent disaster. I darted across the bridge, knowing that there wouldn’t be anybody on the other side. I stepped into the woods and was able to relieve myself and finish the run.

You must not be a triathlete. We discuss bodily functions the way other people discuss the weather.

… It’s a nice day today if it doesn’t rain.

FYI–From what I’ve heard, the Bridge to Nowhere takes you over to the remnants of Civil War fortifications that were along the river. Some Googling brings up “Fort Strong”

If only the Bridge to Nowhere connected to the Spout Run Trail that connected Rosslyn to Spout Run/Lyon Village Shopping Center by going _around_ Rosslyn/Courthouse hill.
