How did I forget the DUMPSTER on Quincy?!?!?!!?! I will update my list above…
I forgot that one too! That stretch of Quincy from Fairfax to Wilson is just bad going all around – but mostly for the condition of the road itself (and the grates on the northbound side), including the dumpster that has been there for years. Around the pizza place, there are frequently double parkers in the evenings (northbound between 9th and Fairfax).

ParticipantOh ho ho ho, I’ve been waiting for this opportunity!
Clarendon Blvd Eastbound (I have included several block stretches because this occurs all along those sections with persistent regularity, with some points particularly “popular”):
- Washington Blvd-Edgewood: This cooridor through Clarendon is a nightmare, particularly of people with their hazards on using it as a parking space. Within this, each block has its own hotspot, including: across from the State Dept. FCU atm, across from the Container Store, and every supposed opportunity for a right turn.
- Barton Intersection: Bike lane constantly used as a turn lane (there is a turn line next to it… sometimes there are cars parked in it)
- Adams-Veitch: This stretch is a triple whammy of passenger drop offs, delivery trucks, and buses getting stick as the road narrows. Hot spots include: across from Firework’s Pizza, and just before and after Wayne.
- Veitch-Ulhe: Bus stop vs. CVS Thunderdome.
- Rhodes-16th: Because with all the on-street parking taken up, why not use this adjacent space for passenger drop off, loading/unloading of groceries, car washing? Hot spots: after each intersection.
**Note: The above covers only a little over a mile!**
Wilson Blvd (Westbound) – Rhode to Courthouse: All. The. Way. Up. The. Hill.
Fairfax Drive between Kirkwood and Wilson: AKA Northside Social Auxiliary Parking. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, this bike lane is usually taken over as a parking lot or pedestrian sidewalk.
N Scott Street (Northbound) past Quinn: As you round the bend toward Lee Hwy, there’s usually at least one car stopped, waiting for someone or keying in navigation.

Seconding KLizotte on S. Joyce Street. I’m curious just how many of the cars blocking the lane are from people double parking to use the USAA ATM.
THIS! I have watched while loading-up/unlocking my bike in front the the World Market a succession of three cars:
- Pull into bike line
- Put on flashers
- Exit vehicle
- Go to ATM and conduct business
- Return and fiddle with personal belongings for another minute
- Drive off (usually merging left without signal)
Only to have their vacated spot IMMEDIATELY filled by another who repeats the exact same process! It’s like jerk osmosis…

USAA sent an email out a week ago indicating this center was closing in Q2 2017, so that may get rid of some of this issue unless they leave the ATM.
(As a usaa customer I’m NOT happy about this, ugh)

KeymasterClarendon Blvd, heading to Rosslyn just past Pierce. Big white federal employee bus, half pulls into parking space leaving back end in bike lane. Practicaly every AM rush.

Here’s my evidence from this AM’s commute:

Granted, the bus is way too big for the space allotted for pick-ups, but we see what gets the short (or back) end.

Southbound on Eads Street in front of the Arlington Transit office. Buses and other vehicles park in the bike lane during the day. There are also signs that allow parking after 6 pm.

ParticipantHow often are Arlington’s bike lanes blocked? Let’s quantify it.
1) Go to http://parkingdirty.com/help
2) You’ll be shown a photo of an Arlington bike lane and asked if it’s blocked. Pick Yes, No or Unsure.
3) Repeat as often as you’ve got time.Should work on PC, Phone, Tablet, whatever. Waiting for the bus or waiting for your fellow coffee-club-ers to arrive? Categorize a couple of photos to pass the time and make a difference in your community.
The data will be compiled, analyzed, & used to advocate for better bike lane designs and increased parking enforcement.
