So it’s 29 degrees out & feels like 18 with a 21MPH NW wind (FUUUU HEADWIND!)

Do I go with the full formal balaclava and the lobster mitts, or go for the more subdued beanie and gloves with liner?

Dressing for these early evening engagements is always so tricky.

(Also, why were my hands perfectly warm all the way to Coffee Club this morning, but then on the 1 mile ride to work they were FREEZING?)

I’ve found in this weather it’s better to err on the side of caution. Too many painful extremities on my rides lately.

Well, duh, it’s because you overheated them by wrapping them around a hot cup of coffee! Of course, that theory doesn’t work if you had some coffee at home before heading to work. :D

I think you’re right, I stopped for a chai on the way home and after that my hands were freezing again! I had to stop and put on the lobster mitts.

I wasn’t cold at all (except for hands) but my muscles kind of quit working toward the end of the ride. Not in the usual tired-ow-we’re-done kind of way – I stopped and went to get back on the saddle and take off again and instead of pulling on the bars and stepping up on the pedal and going, my arms and legs were like “HEY! WE’RE CRAZY SQUASHY NOODLES! LET’S CRASH INTO THINGS!”

So that was entertaining. I fell over on my nemesis hairpin ped bridge turn and felt extra ELITE. :D
