ParticipantMan, what a letdown. Wind was not really an issue heading west on the Custis. Maybe it slowed me down a bit, but it felt more like a steady breeze rather than the gale I was expecting.

That’s because the Custis is quite well insulated. You should’ve gone the long way and done the W&OD westbound! (I didn’t dare.)

ParticipantIt did help that the average wind speed dropped from the mid-20s to the mid-teens and that the top gusting wind speed also dropped. It was still a hard slog at times from the airport to Falls Church. A lot more fun on a road bike than on my heavier flat bar bikes, but it’s back to those tomorrow.

ParticipantThe bridge was rough! Sorry to whoever was behind me – I really was trying to hold my line!
Now for a well-deserved shower…

Is bike shower going to become a thing, like planking or owling? My bathroom is upstairs and it’s very complicated to get a bike in there.

You will be happy this morning! Wind straight in your face north of DCA. I rationalized it as an additional fitness opportunity.

It might not become as widespread as planking, but it could become a thing like bike power naps. With bonus points if people are in the shower too.

ParticipantGoing north past Gravely Point late this morning was absolutely hilarious. If you looked past the tears you could see the laughter in my eyes. No really.

Cleaning drivetrain & messing with derailleur: 1 hour
Scrubbing bike grease out of the tub: 30 minutesGetting giant blob of road grease all over rear brake pads & rim 10 minutes into ride: @#$%! 😡
Discovering this while bombing down biggest hill on ride: Priceless!

ParticipantSorry, I missed the shower comment until just now. If people really need to shower their bike you can come borrow my shower. The tile on the floor is black, too, so grease is invisible!
It’s brutal out there right now. One of the hardest rides home I’ve had. The wind. Oh, the wind. I think my CaBi record from work to home is around 22:30, and it was just shy of 27 today.

If the people are wearing Spandex in the shower, are they ELITE?

Yes, spandex and skinsuits are ELITE. Birthday suits are Pro.
