ParticipantAnd not one really decent map of all of them? Sounds like a job for some tourism grants or something.

I’m trying to keep up with these places at my website http://www.bikeablebrews.com/. The site lets you click to maps showing directions from the trail.

Ha I forgot about this site! Thanks! This is begging for an OpenStreetMap project.

Do you have a social media presence we could tag you on while sharing this resource?

None to date, but probably a good idea.

ParticipantWondering if anyone could offer a thought on choosing between Beltway and Old Ox? Would be about 6 or so people on a Sunday afternoon, already full after having cycled to Carolina Brothers. One of these people likes IPAs and nods to environmentally friendly practices where possible.

ParticipantLoudoun County just launch a website with suggested routes to visit breweries, including one for bikes: http://www.visitloudoun.org/trip-ideas/loco-ale-trail/ale-trail-itineraries/brews-bike-trail

Old Ox has an outdoor deck (faces the trail) and their own branded beer but might be too close to Carolina Brothers. I’m not sure about Beltway but I know they have beer samples and snacks.

ParticipantNever having been to Beltway Brewing, I would suggest Old Ox. Old Ox has lots of space indoors for relaxing and watching a game or outside enjoying the good weather.

ParticipantOK, I got the low-down from my coworker who has been to Beltway. She said there is very limited space, beer to taste or buy, but no food to speak of. Probably worth a stop-in but not sure it’s a “hang out” destination yet.

Again I am reminded of this genius (she won her race and is a current member of the Loudoun County Board) who couldn’t fathom the idea that cycling and the W&OD trail could be good for businesses in her county.

Twice in the past 10 days I have ridden to Leesburg and spent over $500 (largely due to special docs who don’t accept insurance). I noticed that at many of the restaurants, about half of the customers had ridden there or were with people who had. Although I look extremely sexy in bike shorts anyway, I try to ensure that I look like a cyclist for the purpose of reminding business owners that cyclists spend money.
Many thanks to those who offered thoughts on the breweries.
