News reporting a shooting about an hour ago. Here’s hoping that all our forum members there are ok (as well as everyone else.)

I left Navy Yard metro at about ten minutes to nine, to see M street east of NJ blocked off to “traffic” (probably won’t let cyclists through) and what seemed like half of MPD heading east.

USDOT seemed fine, but they have since put us on shelter in place and lockdown. Also apparently Navy Yard metro is closed. The center of the crisis seems to have moved west up M Street.

I’m safe, I got a flat on my rear tire about a mile from the yard around 8:30 this morning. I got a call from my boss telling me to stay away, thenheard all of the sirens. I’m just hanging out on the 7th floor of 1100 NJ ave.

A coworker and I were on the corner of M and NJ when a sedan pulled up and pulled a gunshot victem out. We scattered and went inside 1100 NJ. I had my tire off of my bike and gear all over the sidewalk. I grabbed the big stuff and went inside then went back out to get the rest if my stuff.

So THATS what happened at that corner. There have been rumors he was shot on that corner, that he was medevaced by chopper from NavSea, etc.

It’s really insane to me that this took place in NAVSEA HQ. How did they get a badge to get in there?

That’s what I was wondering too.

    Hope everyone here is alright.

To early to say, but initial reports are that they started shooting outside.

Luckiest flat ever. Glad you’re okay.

That’s incorrect. It’s starting to sound like the shooter obtained someone’s NAVSEA badge.

That’s why I said “initial reports.” Lots of iffy info, and rumors. Just like the morning of 9/11, for instance, there was a rumor going around that there was a shooting at another base.

If he had a badge, it could have been a NAVSEA employee/contractor with a valid badge too. Some reports are coming in that this is the case, but again, we can’t be sure yet.

    Just gotta wait and see.

We have just received word that we WILL be allowed to exit the building to go home, from the main entrance which is closest to the metro station, and FPS will protect us, but we must move quickly to avoid congestion at the metro station entrance.

This is motivating me to switch my telework day so I can up my bike commuting to once a week. YOLO, as the young people say.
