ParticipantThanks for sharing Henry. Rough timing though since I’ve noticed an uptick in use of the Bluemont Junction Trail since the closure of all the metro stations west of Ballston. Same kind of synergy we are having with 66 West construction work concurrent with limited shuttle service in lieu of metro. Surely Arlington and Fairfax are coordinating infrastructure master plan schedules?

ParticipantAny chance we can get a bit of scope creep? The portion of the trail just north of Wilson where you emerge from under the roadway and then reconnect to the W&OD could use some help. Maybe 50-75 feet of asphalt.

Where?

Whew! I thought it was just me.
Dana, while I suspect the answer will be no on the scope creep (it has been every time I’ve asked), can you be more specific about where this is? The Bluemont Connector does not go under a roadway at any point.

If we want to creep that far, I’d also love to have all the root heaves just south of Wilson fixed up, too.

ParticipantThat’s not just scope creep, the W&OD Trail is not Arlington’s. It belong to NOVA Parks. The good news is NOVA Parks has a nice budget for trail maintenance, so I’d shoot them a line about root heaves and other pavement issue on the trail.

ParticipantAn update from ArCo Parks and Rec
“The schedule update is that the on-call contractor is not available until the week of October 12”

Those root heaves are off the hook. I considered ordering custom yard signs saying “Free Vasectomy Ahead”, “All Terrain Vehicles Only”, “Have Your Dentist’s # Handy”, “Helmet Buckled?”, “Hold On Tight”, “Secure Loose Change Now”, “Who Needs Bouncy Castles”, “Bend Those Knees, Please!”, etc. Still may do it

ParticipantSo the project to re-pave the Bluemont Trail (not the bit between Bluemont and Wilson as I think many were discussing above) has started in earnest today (there were “trail closed” signs all last week, but the trail never seemed closed). Today the bit from Wilson to N Emerson was completely closed and re-rounte and they closed the trail down to Illinois (I think that one). They claim they will be done in a week to 10 days. They are re-routing in three batches, but no idea how long each will be.

Trail has been repaved from the W&OD Trail to Wilson Boulevard.
