ParticipantSure you don’t want to add an extra rule? One that would keep you from having to pay postage and ship those beers to me? Much as I may love me some tasty tasty Bells, it doesn’t quite seem sporting to rack up a few easy miles when its 80º and sunny (IN JANUARY WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE) while y’alls are trapped in Snowmageddon.

ParticipantHa! I grew up in northern Mass no more than 10 minutes from the NH border. The rule was that if the school superintendent could get his car out of his driveway we were going to school. One year some enterprising seniors snuck over in the middle of the night and piled the snow up at the end of his driveway. Unfortunately I don’t recall if we got the day off or not. And this was before snowblowers were invented! The horror!
Oh, and I grew up in a house that was only heated with a wood stove in the basement (and, no, it was not at all warm on the top floor where the bedrooms were located). I spent my Saturdays out in the woods chopping down trees and stacking wood with my father and sister for about four months each year. It wasn’t till I got to college that I realized that most people don’t do that. That was also where I discovered the wonder and pleasure of central heating and haven’t looked back since. Give me central heat or give me death!

Participantohhh you know they also sell Vernors around here now too? I have some stored under my desk at work for rough days.
I love my home state–coming to DC and having people panic over a tiny bit of snow amuses me to no end. When I was home for the holidays I watched people in my neighborhood bike around like it was no big deal when it was 10 degrees out and there was a foot of snow on the ground. Nothing beats the Mitten.

Hmmm… I might have to tinker with this so it actually reflects riding on “snow days”

ParticipantI’m hoping for no snow days now, put in work yesterday. My roommate is from Michigan, when I told him about this pointless prize he laughed and said I better win it!
Good tip on the Vernor’s Emm. I picked up a 6 pack yesterday and drank one to celebrate Michigan’s bday, gifted my roomie the rest.

Available now at your local establishment of fine beers, but quantities are limited. I DID bike to the store to buy that, although it wasn’t brewed there so it doesn’t count for #beerneuring.

I am going to try to remember to swing by Total Wine on the way home and see if they have any. I keep forgetting that the new location in Ballston is open. 😎

ParticipantTo that end I’m going to swing by The Brew Shop on Wilson blvd at the end of my ride today. They’re celebrating their 1 Year Anniversary and are going to have some special stuff to fill my bike-cage growler.
When I visited the first time I’d noticed there was a good variety of Michigan beers–then I discovered that one of the owners was also from the Mitten. Here’s how the conversation went down:
Kitty: I’m impressed! You guys* have a lot of beers from Michigan breweries that you don’t usually see around here.
(*In the Midwest, “guys” is a gender-neutral, all-encompassing pronoun)Shop-owner-lady 1: Well we’re both Midwesterners. I’m from Ohio, but my partner is from Michigan.
Kitty: Cool! So am I!
Shop-owner-lady 1: Hey! She’s some Michigan too!
Kitty/Shop-owner-lady 2: So where are you from?
*Both enact Michigander ritual of pointing to their hands to indicate general geographical location*
*3-second pause as both realize they’re pointing to the same place on the “map”*
Kitty/Shop-owner-lady 2: NO WAAAAY!!!It turns out that we’re from the same hometown. Which considering its a fairly small place of little consequence, it saying something. I’ve been pointing at my hand in the course of introductions all my life, and that’s the first time that’s ever happened.
An.Y.Way… this is a long way of saying that the Brew Shop “is good people” and I’m going to buy more beer from them today. :p Also, if you want rare Michigan beer, its a good place to look!
Plus, bike cage growlers:

ParticipantSorry, I call BS on the the prior post.
There are no Ohio/Michigan couples. This is unnatural.

I’m calling BS too, but only because Michigan is not part of the Midwest. Quit trying to be in the cool kids club like people from Illinois, guys.*
*Use of guys to mean you all was stolen from real Midwestern states.

Michigan is totally midwest. I have never understood why people dont believe that…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwestern_United_StatesI’d be fine splitting us from the Midwest and calling Michigan a Great Lakes State since honestly that’s how most of us Michiganders think of ourselves. But then you’re losing Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio too since they’d also fall under that category, so you’ll also lose your cool kids club membership
But it’s cool. Great Lakes States are the ULTIMATE in cool memberships. We’re salt water AND shark free, unlike many of those coastal elite states

ParticipantWhen I’m not busy slandering the State of Michigan, I do enjoy drinking Bell’s beer. I just had an “Oatsmobile” last week that was pretty darn good.
