Oh, I almost forgot the best photo. As you can see, people take the DecoBikes everywhere. http://www.flickr.com/photos/62208072@N08/6578277951/

I feel bad for the folks that have to maintain those bikes; can you imagine how often they have to clean the drive trains with all that sand down there!?

And I lasted exactly two hours. No gears, it was a heavy bike with soft handling, and that led me on to an LBS and a rental bike. For my next installment: How I rode 44 miles down to Key Biscayne on a bike that looked like it needed ET riding in the basket.

Ouch, I thought they were 3 speeds like CaBi. Good for building up leg muscles though – good way to keep looking fit for the beach.

Oh my, I had zero acceleration. I was spinning like a hamster on crack and not clearing traffic well. Yes, terrible duty working in Miami, hideous thing to be forced to view all those beautiful people wearing such little clothing.

PS – Oh, and for what it’s worth, when you re-dock the DecoBike, a ladylike tap and click isn’t enough. You have to ram that bike into its docking station like you’re trying to sink a pirate ship. That’s when the lights on the kiosk light up like a slot machine and you know you’ve successfully docked the bike. Don’t ask how I know this….

Hey – no need to strain yourself when docking/undocking CaBi bikes :) Next time just lift the rear wheel a couple of inches off the ground first before removing or reinserting the bike into the dock. When you do it this way you are using the length of the bike as a lever to break contact with the magnetic plate lock.
