I live right at the southern end of the trail and though I haven’t ridden it since last summer, I do walk my dog up that way. It’s always been around mid-day during the week, and I’ve only seen a few people around each time. I know the bridge you’re talking about, because I was a little more alert than usual when I got there – I kind of expected to find someone camping under it but there was no one around.

I live at the northern end of the trail and I commuted on it about three times per week last June-October and never had any trouble. I rode the whole length of it. When there is trouble it seems to be mostly at the northern end, and I’ve never heard of anything happening at the overpass. I’m looking forward to commuting again when the weather warms up and the days get longer.

I commute on the MBT most every day, from Brookland (Monroe and 8th Street) to L or M street, and back again in the evenings. I’ve ridden as early as 7am and as late as 10 or 11pm. I’ve done this round trip since July or so and I’ve never had any real problems. The one time that there was an issue (seemingly drunk person driving on the trail yelling at cyclists to get out of his way) the police responded very quickly. I’ve heard of problems up near Rhode Island Ave, especially with the school kids, but I haven’t experienced anything bad. Way better than my old commute on roads with cars…

There is now a group that was hired to do trail maintenance, and I see them out there several mornings a week- which is awesome! They take great care of the trail and surrounding area.

I’ve been riding it virtually every day since last August with no trouble.
