Any effect on the MVT where it goes under the bridge? If they were to do a major rebuild I’d love to see that widened. But all I’m realistically hoping is that they don’t have to close it during the repairs.

The MVT is unaffected now. The need to widen the MVT is on NPS’s radar as part of both the Memorial Circle project and the LT project to fix the bridge.

South side (down river side) sidewalk closed at both ends. Since they’re still not working on the sidewalk, rather than double back to a safe crossing point and use the north sidewalk, I just pushed through the signs and rode the sidewalk anyway. But it’s time for me to reconsider Memorial Bridge entirely for who knows how long.

Is this new? I biked across it on Monday and it seemed that everything was still open.

I’ll check on my way home, but this is my main escape route!

It’s my daily commute. It was open yesterday afternoon. Closed this morning.

Me too! I walked home last night across the bridge and nothing seemed out of the ordinary and I was planning on doing the same tonight. Grumble, grumble.

Schizo Memorial Bridge. Rode home early today (10/21) and south side was open again. Don’t know if that’s a work-crew change of heart or disgruntled users throwing the signs to the side. It looked like the latter, but who knows.

Hmm, well this is concerning. I’ve just emailed NPS about this – I’ll update this thread if I hear back!

The South side of the bridge has looked like this and been open on my daily rush hour(ish) commutes.

Did anyone see a sign saying the sidewalk would be closed from (and I’m relying on my lousy brain for this) November 9 to November 21? Um…that’s not good. I first noticed the sign on 11/5 but I didn’t ride the bridge yesterday.

I’ve been commuting over this bridge for 3 years and it’s pretty much just autopilot for me now especially in the mornings, I just KNOW I’m gonna wind up here 3-4 times this month and have to Charlie Brown shuffle away. (and be VERY late to work instead of just way too late)

p.s. I just love how the sign they already put up at the other end of the bridge has blocked 1/2 of the sidewalk around the downhill blind corner for the last 3 weeks or so.

This isn’t new or official info. AFAIK, there hasn’t been a formal statement from NPS.

Did anyone else hear the new news today from NPS that if the bridge doesn’t get a complete rebuild of the undercarriage it will be a pedestrian/bike bridge within 5 years and get a little excited??

Of course, that’s not going to happen. They’ll get the $250,000,000 from somewhere and all the other projects for improving ped/bike infrastructure will likely suffer as a result… like that gravelly point by-pass or maintaining the boardwalk near TR Island.

On the other hand, it would be a very nice way to cross the river.
