Mayor of my town caught on video smoking crack? Big deal. Been there, done that.

ParticipantBut he only smoked the crack because he was blacked-out drunk. What’s the problem? Judge not…

ParticipantToronto Mayor Rob Ford just dropped a bombshell at City Hall, admitting to reporters that he has smoked crack cocaine.
“Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” Ford told reporters after arriving at City Hall on Tuesday.
So at least he isn’t going with the “Photoshop” defense.

I don’t think he really could at this point–everyone is just like “oh, so much makes sense now”. Really, what kind of defense could this guy offer that anyone could take seriously?

ParticipantThis happened more than a year and a half ago:
“Barnett was one of the staffers who was with Ford during his drunken St. Patrick’s Day party in his City Hall office back in 2012.
The night included Ford knocking Brooks off his feet in an apparent rage, jumping on his giant Cut the Waist challenge scale and stripping off his clothes, smashing his cellphone on the wall, crying uncontrollably and even throwing racial slurs and his business cards at a cab driver.
A City Hall security email released last week describes Ford as “very intoxicated” that night and walking around the main floor of City Hall with a half-empty bottle of brandy.”

It’s not as though all this were secret either. Ford publicly apologized and promised to cut back on his drinking. Surreal.

ParticipantAnd it gets worse: http://news.yahoo.com/video-emerges-toronto-mayor-180958684.html
‘At one point in the new video, Ford says he’ll “make sure” the unknown person is dead.
A visibly agitated Ford tells another person in the room, possibly the man filming the video, that he wants to “kill” someone in an expletive-laced rant. “Cause I’m going to kill that (expletive) guy,” Ford says. “No holds barred brother. He dies or I die.”
At one point he says “My brothers are, don’t tell me we’re liars, thieves, birds?” and then later refers to “80-year-old birds.” ‘
As before, Ford’s excuse is that he was “extremely, extremely inebriated.” I’m only posting all this because Ford has been one of the most visible, vocal, aggressive and powerful anti-bike individuals in North America in recent years. While this tale doesn’t show what all rabid anti-bike people are like, it reveals what is going on with at least one of them. Doesn’t mean all cyclists are saints. But it does show that the “bike lane-removal guy” is deeply, deeply (or extremely, extremely) disturbed. -
