Washcycle had a picture of a black guy on a bike getting turned away from MLK memorial the other day:

I like the analogy to strollers (from the comments). If a double-wide super Ferrari full-suspension stroller with two kids and enough pack supplies for a week in the Andes is allowed to roll through, why not a bike?

    this was discussed on dcist.
apparently, the memorial has not yet been turned over to the nps, it still is under the authority of the mlk national memorial foundation.
so, there is some confusion about bicycles being allowed.
hopefully it will all get cleared up after (before?) the dedication.

Thursday evening there were signs for no bikes, but the NPS guy told us we could walk the bikes (group of nine riders). The bike racks were inaccessible behind construction fencing.

I walked my bike through a couple weeks ago, in clear view of some rangers, and had no problem.

These guys just make crap up as they go along.
