Although hopefully tomorrow I’ll remember to shift down before hitting the mulch because climbing out and back onto the pavement at Trollheim took a bit of effort (the guy behind me laughed).
I did remember to downshift, and was rewarded for my ingenuity and additional torque with a spinning rear wheel (28mm slicks were not made for mulch). Had to bail and walk it out.

ParticipantI totes meant to go that route last week when I had the gravel bike, and I totes forgot. With luck, I’ll keep forgetting until it’s done.

ParticipantA long delayed project to improve the security around the Albert V. Bryan U.S. Courthouse in Alexandria has closed eastbound Jamieson Avenue from Mill Street to Courthouse Square. A detour is in place, directing vehicles to turn right onto Mill Road and then proceeding to a left onto Eisenhower Avenue.

Westbound traffic will still be able to use Jamieson, but jersey barriers have been installed that narrows the roadway. Bike riders will definitely want to take the lane in this section.

ParticipantSo, each day as I travel down the Custis along Lee Hwy towards the IOD, along the “grassy” area between the road and trail just past Quinn there has been a pile of white stuff since the snow. At first I thought it was snow. Is it actually salt? Should we all be filling containers with it to keep for next year to clear off Trollheim (or the Custis itself if the budget is lost)?

I should have checked this thread Monday morning. The Jamieson closure took me by surprise. I reacted by salmoning.
Tuesday morning I rode the Eisenhower sidewalk to Elizabeth Ln, usedthe beg button to force a break in the constant stream of morning rush hour traffic.
I normally ride the sidewalk after crossing the Huntington-Eisenhower bridge until I find a break in the traffic, then cross Eisenhower to get to Jamieson, then take the alley by Whole Foods to get to Duke.

ParticipantThis morning the mulch trail along the Pkwy to the newly paved trail was open and the route to take. If you are coming from the south, both trails are open, but the mulch trail is going to the island only (and only way to the island).
It wasn’t a bad ride, a lot of mulch (it will be messy after rains). The asphalt at the curbs by the closed entrance is not as smooth as needed – more like rounded steps. And there is a freshly painted crosswalk there – not sure why if it is closed to cars and this isn’t to be the final route. I think they are going to plant grass along the edge between the trail and wall since they were digging up the weeds there this morning. Unless they are planning on planting fresh weeds.

Well it has been a long time coming, but the construction on Jamieson is nearly complete. Included in the final project are bike lanes in both directions from Mill to Courthouse Square.
