The other signs that I like are the ones that say “Bicycles Share the Road” which I am pretty sure drivers interpret to be a message to bicyclists that they should get off the road so as to better-share it with the cars.

No, I’m pretty sure they think, “oh, since that cyclist wasn’t following all the laws [including the ones that exist only in my own head] I’m justified in hassling him.”

I would much rather to see the sign “Bicyclists May Use Full Lane” instead of “Share the Road” signs. I think the “Caution: Bicycles on Beach Dr.” signs in Rock Creek Park are even worse.

The problem with that specific sign is that it conditions drivers to assume that if they don’t see a sign like that in other places then bicyclists may not use the full lane.

Yesterday when stopping to don my jacket at the top of the S-turn on the Custis (because thunderstorm), I noticed that the nice new patch they put there to lessen the bump is already falling apart. The asphalt is still moist and has a wet chunk gouged out of it. This is probably because the temps have been so low that it didn’t set right for whatever mix of hot-mix or warm-mix asphalt they used. Anyway, not the end of the world, but you may find asphalt hitchhikers stuck to your tires.

    Come on, it’s April already.
