ParticipantI’m sitting on my porch looking at blossoms, don’t feel the need to go look at cars and crowds.

Dont go ANYWHERE near the cherry blossoms. Just dont do it. Pretty much the only safe bridges across the Potomac are the Wilson and Chain Bridge.
I’m seriously considering taking to the roadway on Key Bridge for the next couple of weeks. I think dancing among the cars may be safer than negotiating the oblivious pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks.

ParticipantI actually rode over to the Tidal Basin yesterday during lunch. Of course it was very crowded. I rode on the streets more than I usually do there. In the stretches where I stayed on the sidewalk, I walked the CaBi bike, moving at about 0.25 mph. That’s just life during peak bloom or near peak bloom. But it’s still worth it to me.
The blossoms didn’t appear to be quite at peak bloom, which is defined as 70 percent of the Yoshino trees blossoming. It might be at 50-60 percent, so it’s close. It was supposed to rain overnight. That may have blown away some of the existing blossoms, but maybe not.
The streets are fine, but the pollen levels spiked noticeably yesterday. A couple weeks ago, I took a single 24-hr Claritin-D tablet but that was it. I’ve been OK in recent days, doing some evening riding on most days. But yesterday, if I didn’t rinse off my face immediately after riding around, my eyes would start to burn badly because of the pollen. That may not be a road or trail condition, but it’s definitely a riding condition.
I’ll probably be riding around more areas with cherry blossoms this weekend. I’ll bring a water bottle. Not so much for drinking but mostly to rinse out my eyes every 30-60 minutes. The pollen is going to be bad.

I always thought if Virginia needed a new tourism slogan, they could use: “If you have a pollen allergy, you’ll find it in Virginia.”

ParticipantThe wind is brutal today and going to 40 Mph. The river already has white caps. Fire and rescue is EVERYWHERE. One account has an overturned crew boat (if true, what MORON of a coach takes crews out on a day like today)
Be very careful today

So, another good day to try for a lean angle PR while crossing the 14th Street Bridge.

ParticipantWent riding with the 6 year old, you’re never too young to learn about cross winds.

ParticipantYesterday was a good day to feel like I was riding the broad side of a barn as I felt my CaBi being pushed around by the wind gusts.

So…tell us more! They should be targeting all users of the road: http://www.bikearlington.com/pages/news-events/blog/the-2016-acpd-safe-bicycling-initiative/
Were you blowing through stop signs and not obeying traffic signals right in front of an officer again?

FTFY. I find that legal cycling and safe cycling aren’t always the same.

Nah. I am only in front of Intergallactic Headquarters when I go to District Taco. Today I was elsewhere blowing through the stop signs that all the cars blow through and not obeying traffic signals that the cars were not obeying right in front of an officer who does not ever bother to ticket the cars.
On facebook there were car drivers that were complaining about cyclists who “hop curbs to avoid red lights.” I have to admit, I only have begun the “curb hopping” thing again. But seriously its because I have become so warey of car traffic that I pretty much will do anything to “give these americans a wide berth.”

Yeah – there is a non symmetrical message for you.I bet a lot of the drivers are thinking, “Oh, yeah, I was just about to do that, but now that I’ve been reminded, I guess not.”
