ParticipantThe latest forecast is 3-6 inches of snow by Thursday afternoon (W. Post). But they still aren’t confident about the forecast. It could be 1 inch, it could be 8 inches.

ParticipantFor true about the Custis being fine now? Because I flintstoned it by the moguls yesterday with studs, while Rob O rode by on slicks. The lesson is don’t get skeered and don’t stop the bike.

ParticipantColumbia Island by the LBJ grove still sucks. Solid ice with ice ruts.

It was muuuuch better than the morning. Doable on slicks, for now.
Cap Weather Gang say 25% chance of 8+ inches. Pretty good odds!!

Be careful a 2 mi CaBi ride on Thursday will probably run you up close to the 30 minute limit.
I’ll gladly pay $1.50 to get a non-sleaze ride in without risking my own bike.

The W&OD was sketchy when I rode it around 5pm. Not much better than the morning through Falls Church — or west (i.e. the ice patches).

ParticipantCustis and W&OD were mostly fine from Fairfax in Arlington to Oak in Falls Church at around 1800-1830.
There’s still dangerous ice in the outside corner (westbound side) of the turn just west of Brandymore Castle hill but the patch near the basketball court was better.
The Falls Church Icefield between Great Falls and Little Falls is still super-slippery. I had to walk it on semi-slicks.
There were spots turning slushy but otherwise nothing too bad.
Good riding with you, Subby!

I felt like I was tempting fate tonight. It will all clear out by the end of tomorrow with warm rain on it all day. Then it will become worse than ever on Thursday.

ParticipantThe MVT was icy tonight. Much worse than in the morning. Especially around the 14 st bridge and along the water towards the bridge.
I went down on black ice.
From the airport to 4mr was okHope worms up enough for tomorrow

ParticipantThe frozen Swampoodle puddle almost took me out this afternoon.
Anyone scope out TR bridge sidewalk? I miss using that bridge.

ParticipantThe WOD was glazed over west of Vienna when I rolled through after six this evening. That made for an interesting final six miles home on skinny slicks.

ParticipantEven the roads in n prince georges county were icy slicks at 8pm Temp fell from 34 to 31 in just an hour or two after sunset, and all the water just semi froze and stayed on the roads. Very hard to tell what was slush enough to grip in and what wasn’t.

Participant15th St. cycletrack and sidewalks to East Potomac Park were OK, but some sidewalks started to feel slippery while I was walking on them. (I rode CaBi to the Memorial Circle open house in the evening and walked over to the building.)

Roosevelt bridge was fine when I rode it at about 3:30pm. Lots of lumps of salt.

Ditto to all of the above. I ate asphalt on some black ice southbound as I approached Gravelly Point at around 5:30 pm. Didn’t even see it coming. As I passed bikers heading the opposite way as me I wanted to shout “Abandon all hope ye who enter here!”
