I flew by NVRPA today out on the W&OD pulling a gas-powered blower behind their truck. The result: no more winter grit and debris out at least to Hunter Mill, which is as far as I went. I was surprised to see it, and I’m grateful for their effort!

Did the Gallows crosswalk light seem borken to you? It seemed to take several yonks both last evening and this morning.

Also, someone needs to get the crap off the Gallows bike shoulder, for it is a mess.

As I rode on Beach Drive through Rock Creek yesterday and today, I thought that Park Service has now achieved parity with the road and the multi-use trail. It’s as if they want the drivers to have as bad a ride on the road as the bike have on the trail. The condition of the road is the worst I’ve ever seen it with potholes galore. There are several that are big enough to warrant traffic cones in them.

I wondered if NPS’ plan is to let Beach degrade enough that it gets permanently closed to autos. If it’s good enough for Klingle…

It should change to “walk” 10-12 seconds after the light at Idylwood [turns red]. Sometimes it is indeed broken and this doesn’t happen. And if you don’t push the button this won’t happen.

I have looked for that relationship between the two signals in the past; I’ll look again next time I’m out (if I can stand to wait that long!). Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I heard you say that this morning as you rode behind me crossing against the light.

I’ve timed it at 3 minutes after you boop the button. Usually feels longer, but the one time I consciously timed it, it was three minutes.

Then it is broken since we’re only supposed to have to wait two minutes for a light that won’t change …

It was about 2 minutes (or 2:30? don’t quite recall) the one time I timed it. I don’t know if the length varies or what. If the light above changes and it doesn’t change ~10 seconds later, I assume it’s broken and cross when it’s safe to do so. I also am happy to cross when there’s no traffic (typically only happens early AM or right before it’s about to change anyway).

I would happily contribute $200 to a bridge fund.

How about a snow report update? There is still a snow pile in the Lyon Village shopping center blocking the curb cut to get onto the Custis Trail.

That pile of snow has been reported using Arlington’s handy snow complaint form. Results….. Well, the snow is almost melted.

Maybe we could have another HP100 fundraiser ~ or sell girl scouts.

This raccoon was sitting in the middle of the trail, unmoving but alive, at 6:50 when I flew by PeteD and he warned me. Was still there at 8:15. I called animal control and they were already on the way.
