ParticipantDear fellow cyclists: As I explained to several folks before & after my Bike Safety presentation at Saturday’s FABB Summit, I am trying to help a biker who was struck while riding toward the Key Bridge in the bike lane in front of the Chopt Restaurant, 1735 Lynn Street in Arlington. This elderly man’s upright bike was dragged along the right side of this one-way street & his injuries lead to the amputation of his leg last week. The Law Shop staff & I have investigated & it appears busses come down though the alley from Moore Street & make a Left Turn on to Lynn Street. If anyone saw the bus come from behind & strike the bicycle rider in the bike lane or the aftermath of this crash, please contact me or any of my co-workers at the ABRAMS LANDAU law firm here in Herndon (703-796-9555 or doug@LandauLawShop.com). Thanking you in advance for whatever you can share with us, doug

ParticipantWe should put up a sign at the Intersection of Doom keeping track of the number of accidents at that location.
The accident with the bus sounds horrible.

ParticipantMy bike accident on July 2, 2012, just missed being on this map because it occurred 740 feet west of the Arlington County line (corner of E. Columbia St and Forest Dr. in Falls Church). The result was a broken collar bone due to a post-durecho, low-hanging utility wire that snagged me just below the lip of my helmet. I was moving about 15 mph at the time. The wire lifted me and my bike completely off the ground and slammed me to the pavement on my left shoulder. I was transported by ambulance to Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. This is one incident where I would’ve been better off NOT wearing a helmet because the wire would have just glanced off my head instead of snagging the helmet.

ParticipantI hope the bus accident victim is doing as well as can be expected. My father recently had his leg amputated (non-accident related) so I know how difficult this sort of trauma is to deal with. Please get the word out on this accident; hopefully someone has some information to help the victim and perhaps this dangerous intersection can be made safer.

Wanted to share my map of the 227 bike accidents in Arlington from 2010 to 2012: Arlington Bike Crash Data
Thanks to BikeArlington for sharing the data!
This is really cool but I’m unclear what “vehicles” represents. If it says 1 accident, 0 fatalities, 2 vehicles does that mean 1 bike and 1 car? What if it says 1 accident and 3 vehicles? Not surprisingly, virtually all accidents are along major car corridors.
