I have a standard size Kryptonite Kryptolock. Combination, not key. I locked my bike to the bike rack this morning and I noticed that when I tried to close the lock it was a bit stiff. I then hit it hard with my hand to close it then I noticed that one of the combination wheels was stuck (The wheels with the numbers on them) I also noticed that the locking mechanism appeared to not be fully engaged, so I banged the lock again to get it to close completely without binding and when I did so the wheel with the number on it would move again. Since I had trouble getting it to close I figured I’d open the lock again to make sure it was working properly and lo and behold that b*tch wouldn’t open. I can enter my combination, but the button to release the lock will not move one bit.

I already have my cousin with the torches on stanbdy to cut the lock off, just wanted to post this so no one else runs into this issue. If you are trying to close your Kryptonite U lock and it doesn’t click in easily like it normaly does DON’T FORCE IT or the lock may seiz up. I thought about entering my combination thn seeing if that little key you insert to set the combination would make it unlock but then again I might just torch it off the top and be don with it.

Has anyon ran into this before? My next u lock will be a key lock.

P.S. I left my shower flip flops at home today too. Great lol…

I have a friend who works in the Ballston mall office tower (and I’m trying to get him to ride to work). Does anyone know if that building has a locker room, and if so, where it is?

    Thanks.

I, too, work in Ballston Tower (that’s the official name), and sadly, there are no locker rooms/shower facilities in the building. However, if your friend has/gets a membership at Sport & Health Club (there may be discounts through the company) in the mall, your friend would be able to use their locker room/showers.

This happened to my keyed Krytonite U-lock. The building services crew in my building had a blast cutting through that thing with a Sawzall. They brokke 3 blades in the process.
If you keyed Kryptonite lock starts to get difficult to open or close, contact Kryptonite and order a new key. The edges on the keys wear out over time. Much cheaper than a new lock.
Also, I have a Kryptonite lock that gives me trouble in temps below 30 degrees. Maybe just warming up the lock can help “unfreeze” the lock mechanism.

I’ve oiled my lock before with great success.

I’ll second the oil idea. My Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit seized up after years of abuse, but hosing down the shackle with degreaser and then dripping in some Phil Wood oil have it working like new again.

+1 for oil. -1 for not properly draining said oil before putting said lock in bag with fresh change of underwear.
