Border collies are awesome. My Ibizan Hound loves to mountain bike with me, and can definitely go faster than I can bike.

Hypothetically, my whippet has run with me while I biked on the C&O canal towpath for 8 miles at 4:18/mile pace, including a 2:49 mile. I say hypothetically because I certainly wouldn’t let him off leash on the towpath, particularly not at 12:30 pm on a cold Tuesday in the winter with nobody else around. 😎

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/297720113 He could definitely go faster, but I couldn’t go faster in the gravel/mud than 21.3 mph for any longer.

Supposedly a saluki will run 2 miles in 4 minutes. Not quite as fast a sprinter as a greyhound or whippet, but a lot more endurance.

Kaia reminds me of the dog (Border collie mix) of one of my relatives.

Mine has little to no interest in running alongside me…

Look up the history of the Dalmatian. They are not the fastest dog but they will run just about any other dog into the ground given time. I had one and he was nuclear powered. Dals will wear horses out.

National Dog Day was observed last week. I don’t know who came up with the day, but it’s a good reason to bump this thread.
