ParticipantThey should put the cars in the tunnel. That area would make a really beautiful park. Of course, that would push the schedule into the next century…

I could get down with that

ParticipantA bike/pedestrian bridge would be less expensive. They could run it from a point to the east of the intersection with Lynn St. and have it pass over Lynn St. and Ft. Myer Drive, then drop back down to ground level to the west of Ft. Myer Drive. If necessary, they could loop around to reduce the slope. The existing trail and sidewalks could remain, for people who are turning south or north from the trail.
While this would be expensive and unlikely to be built, it wouldn’t be as expensive as a car tunnel.

Please, let’s not have any economic analysis intrude on our fantasies.

This is an excellent idea.
But exploring this idea, recall that you have many layers of traffic.
* East / West Traffic
* North / South Traffic – which must meet the Key Bridge
* WMATA Subway which is under there somewhereThe East West Traffic would have to be in a different level tan the North South Traffic. I guess. I mean I suppose you could put a traffic light under ground.
And the East West Traffic you would maintain at the same grade as the 66 East West traffic
So the North South Traffic would have to go in a tunnel under the East West Traffic. – and then rise back up to meet the Key Bridge
How far down is the metro tunnel?
And then you have to worry about the proposed Gondola.
Not sure if this is sounding too feasible.

No engineering analysis allowed either!

Well hell! What analysis CAN WE DO in order to avoid actual work?

Look, as soon as the ground thaws a bit, I’m going out there with a shovel to start digging the tunnel. You can sit around and do “analysis” or you can grab a shovel and help.

ParticipantDigging a tunnel sounds like actual work. Analysis – now there is something of no value that involves almost no real work.

Participantisn’t it easier to just copy and paste like i did in the picture? that would sure be easier than all this shovel talk.

ParticipantThe key is to trick other people into thinking that the hard back-breaking work is fun or rewarding. Just like Tom Sawyer did. Maybe mention that you heard about valuable gold or diamond deposits, or buried treasure underneath Lynn St. Then mark out specific areas where you heard from a cousin of a friend of a co-worker of an in-law of a neighbor of a former classmate that that is where the gold and diamonds are located.

ParticipantThere is a major obstruction at Intersection of Doom. I think it is a vacuum truck cleaning the sewer or something. Anyway, Custis is entirely blocked. Westbound Lee Hwy is blocked. And North Bound Lynn is down to two lanes.
All Westbound traffic on Lee, four lanes, is forced down to one lane and all traffic must go right. Westbound is completely blocked. So what happens when cars come up to this and see a red light, three lanes blocked, and orange cones directing them right? They just run the red light and go right.
There was a police car when I went through – but no police officer.
Arlington just continues to fail with regards to IOD

which is why I take the WOD or the ABT these days. I am part of the uncounted masses that avoid the BA Monolith

ParticipantArlCoPoPo’s response was
@rcannon100 When you observe a hazard, please report to our dispatch 703.558.2222 so an officer can investigate.
Let’s see. You have blocked four lanes of traffic one way – diverting all traffic westbound; two lanes of traffic the other way; and completely blocked the custis – but I have to call the popo if I observe a hazard?
I responded that I had observed a hazard.
