ParticipantAlmost every bike lane I have seen in Central Florida is like this. High speed. There’s another one nearby that is a 4 lane highway signed at 55 that has turn offs for businesses and subdivisions on every block.
Interestingly, nearly every road without a bike lane also doesn’t have a shoulder either. There are lots of sidewalks which I’ve made frequent use of. They’re typically wide. Many of them are about as wide as the Custis. They also have close to zero pedestrians, because you are a non-person if you don’t have a car here.

Terrifying considering the number of people on devices while riding.
My mom tried to shove her iPhone in front of my face to show me some bullshit on Facebook while I was driving. We had an uncomfortable conversation about distracted driving, the number of people I know who have been hit by a car and how I hope she doesn’t end up killing somebody like me.

I have some photos somewhere of a highway I rode in Miramar (literally a highway to the danger zone) that was signed 65mph with a paint only bike lane. Riding through the slip lanes was, uh, interesting.

Er yeah. I still use the sidewalk on upper King Street in Alexandria, which isn’t nearly as bad as that. In downtown DC I think I can manage to avoid sidewalks though.

You did see my photos of riding on the shoulder of the 120 k/h M06 motorway heading west out of Kviv? At least that shoulder was in better condition.
