ParticipantBut not in conjunction with the National Bike Summit I guess?

ParticipantI think National Bike Summit is coming up in early March — March 4-6 — so probably way too soon after cyclocross season, which just ended last week with the world championships in Louisville, to organize so fast. The April timing will make for some really nice weather for the riders, probably.
I’m just guessing, just looking at their Facebook feed. Their website hasn’t been updated yet.

ParticipantThe National Bike Summit was too early this year to really make it possible to do a Ride on Washington. This will be the third year, and the third different incarnation of the Ride on Washington. I’m not able to ride it this year, but I’m going to see what I can do to help.

We’ll be happy to host a meet up/feed station at Proteus again. And maybe you can ride with us this time, Dirt!

I wish I could!!!! Unfortunately the final day of ROW is the same day as the Kill Bill Century. Since I’m both organizing and leading KBC, it is not really possible for me to sneak away. I wish the ROW had been announced earlier. I could have adjusted Kill Bill. If we postpone Kill Bill due to weather, I’m TOTALLY THERE!!!!

ParticipantOne way that I will be working to help out with ROW is to sign the route from Proteus to the finish so that it is easier for people to follow. I’ll be out on Saturday doing that if people want to join in and help with the process.

How are you signing the route? Spray Chalk and stencils?

Probably not. I need something subtle, yet effective. I still have to figure that out.

ParticipantFound this PDF about temporary markings for the East Coast Greenway, but I’d be curious to hear about your thought process behind what types of route identifiers to use. No doubt, many people will be using GPS, so there are GPX cue sheets that most people can load, but sometimes the real world feels quite different than you’d expect from behind a computer screen. (This is all me thinking out loud) I know you’ve got decades of experience leading rides, so I’m curious to hear your opinions!

I think you should postpone it anyway!

ParticipantThanks americancyclo. That is helpful. Let’s talk off-line about this. I still need to drop off a Garmin 800 to you some time soon. You gonna be at either FCC tomorrow?

Indeed. I’m sorry that date didn’t work out for you. We’ll do it again later in the year. I don’t want to postpone if I can avoid it since there are so many events in the weeks following April 28.

ParticipantIf I make enough cookies, maybe we can tempt some ride monitors to go out front to key intersections and wave their Bike Arlington scarves to point the right directions as riders come through?
