My brother is also interested in a bakfiets-style bike, so we stopped by The Daily Rider last month and gave the bullitt a test run. It didn’t quite feel right for him, but we’re tall guys so that wasn’t a surprise. The owner (who commutes on a bullitt) was there and gave us lots of advice about other brands as well. The rest of the shop is cool too – definitely worth a visit!

Did the Bullitt feel fast? The last review I read of it said it was a good climber and fast. But the bucket wasn’t really good at holding two kids side by side. Also, they dumped it quite a few times before getting really comfortable with it. Still wanna try one, thanks for letting us that the Daily Rider has em.

We test rode a Christiania in London last year. I believe a store around here (Green Commuter?) carries them, but I have no idea if they have them in stock.

Christiania is a trike, and both my husband and I thought that was a deal killer, especially with hills and turns. The guy at the shop said you do get used to it. Those bikes come with TONS of options, including lots of gearing options (our biggest fear is not having the proper gearing for Arlington hills). We did really like the bucket part.

Alas, not available in Maryland, but this idea for rentable cargo bikes (in Amsterdam) sounds like it could be transplanted to the District with success by some entrepreneuring individual:

I posted a link to this blog over in the Kid-carrier thread a few weeks back, but it seems relevant here too – for those looking to haul *that* kind of cargo:
They describe their Bakfiets and custom builds via a link on the right side of the homepage – near the images.
