ParticipantProteus in College Park had a Yuba on the floor last time I stopped by. If you wanted to venture down to DC, bicycle space used to have a bug dummy but I haven’t see it since they moved to the smaller shop. The Daily Rider has a bullitt which is sort of a bakfiets.

ParticipantI’ve seen a few of the Sun Atlas Cargo at Bikes at Vienna. http://www.bikesatvienna.com/ Probably best to give them a call before you head across the border though

ParticipantI rode a great new cargo bike yesterday, the Kona MinUte. It’s a little shorter and more manageable than the Ute, it’s fun to ride, and I could even see commuting on it. Priced at $999 — I have a feeling it will be popular in DC among people who’d like to offload a car (payment).

ParticipantWe’ve been dying to find a bakfiets-style cargo bike for a test ride around Arlington, and have heard mumblings about such a thing about the Daily Rider, but no confirmation (Bicyclebug/btg – is that actual confirmation?)
If you want to come down our way and don’t mind waiting a month, we’re planning family bike show-and-tell at the Arlington Fun Ride on October 6.

Not the greatest photo, but here’s Laurie (120 pounds maybe) rocking the Kona Minute on a 15 mile ride with 1k of elevation and a small load. Was a great ride. Easy to manuever but still has a huge cargo capacity if needed. Kona makes a child seat ready shelf system.

ParticipantMy brother is also interested in a bakfiets-style bike, so we stopped by The Daily Rider last month and gave the bullitt a test run. It didn’t quite feel right for him, but we’re tall guys so that wasn’t a surprise. The owner (who commutes on a bullitt) was there and gave us lots of advice about other brands as well. The rest of the shop is cool too – definitely worth a visit!

This photo should go in Tim’s new thread about how far away Bike Arlington swag has been spotted!

ParticipantI just found this thread looking for kid-carrying cargo bikes in MD. I’m trying to decide what would work the best for me – twin 3.5 yr olds and a 5 yr (who doesn’t necessarily need to fit on the bike). I would like to take the twins to preschool twice a week, 6 miles each way. There is one huge hill but I’m trying to find a way around that. I was thinking about a Madsen Cycle or an Xtracycle with seats or a Kona Ute with seats. Any advice?
Also, I’d love to see the family bikes at the Arlington Fun Ride. When and where is it?

The Arlington Fun Ride is Saturday, October 6 at Pheonix Bikes: 4200 S Four Mile Run Dr Arlington, VA 22206. The “adult” ride, around the 17-mile Arlington Loop, starts at 8:30am. The family bike show and tell (bring your family bike set up, and show it off) starts at 10am. The family ride itself will start at 10:30am. Everything wraps up with a picnic around noon. http://bikes.kintera.org/faf/help/helpEventInfo.asp?ievent=1037226&lis=1&kntae1037226=C4A2A0567B72440494B80FDD55ED16FE
**I am typing this schedule from memory after being on vacation; my memory may be mushy.**

Might want to add the Yuba Mundo to the list. I really need to go try a cargo bike. Took my daughter to preschool on Friday and Monday in a trailer (5 mosquito bites while setting the trailer up). It was a short two miles on smaller roads, but quite a few hills and a couple of big roads to cross. She loved it though.
Anyone have any experience with The Green Commuter shop in Takoma Park?
