    Hello WABA,

I’m getting into longer rides, but I can’t decide on where to ride. I think I’m ready for a 50 mile ride, but I need suggestions on a nice scenic route from Potomac and back. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Chris

From Potomac there are a ton of options headed out and around Poolesville, Sugar Loaf, etc. You can basically plot your own route (http://www.ridewithgps.com is great for that) and not go wrong.

You might also want to consider the Saturday Potomac Pedalers ride out of Wootton High School. There were about 50 people this Saturday. They break into a B and a C group but then those groups usually end up sub-splitting some more so basically it’s easy to find a group at your level.

Really, it all just depends on what kind of ride you are looking to do. More flat? More hills? Scenic? Into D.C.? Around the farm country? So many options from there.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I guess I’m looking for more of an easy scenic ride. Mostly on paved trails or on the asphalt. My road bikes doesn’t really handle gravel paths very well. I’m not quite ready for a ton of hill work. Right now I’m just trying to stretch out to a longer distance.

Every once in a while I lead a metric century that highlights most of the main urban bike trails and inside-the-beltway commuter routes. I’m thinking of adding on some new sections for the new anacostia river trails in DC, which are really nice, but so far aren’t really connected to major commuter routes from outside DC.
