Without a specific diagnosis, you might have some problems with any therapist.

That said, I know from running that many if not most cases of ITB syndrome are related to core muscle weakness and lack of stability in the hips and core. Strengthening the entire core (abs, obliques, lower back, glutes, gluteus medius, hip flexors, quads, hamstrings, spinal erectors) are key to providing this stability. Even though it may seem like a lot of different muscles, you can train the core through just a few different compound (multi-joint, total-body) exercises.

Just keep in mind that strength exercises work best as prevention. They won’t fix pre-existing injuries. But sometimes, the strengthening and muscle balance you get from strength/core training resolves muscle imbalances, and then you find that you just had muscle imbalances instead of injuries.

Hi -I’m looking for some good medical professionals who can help me with a bike related injury – a hip/IT band thing, or possibly a hip impingement.

When you step into the waiting room and you see the wall of signed race photos of people who have used them you’ll know you’re in the right place.

Tell them that Tim Kelley sent you. Yeah, the really tall triathlete guy…

I see a guy who does M.A.T. (https://muscleactivation.com/) He’s a triathlete, works with professional athletes and I’ve been using him for over a year now. He’s in Ballston, near Wilson/George Mason. In my experiences with PT’s, they’ve just treated my symptoms rather than the underlying cause or given me remedial rehab exercises that likely will work for your average person, but not for someone who slings as much weight as me. (that was a complete generalization, I realize)

Editing to also recommend Airrosti. It’s EXPENSIVE and incredibly painful but it totally works. I go to Josiah when I need to bring in the big guns for something acute and specific (as in, I’ve tweaked my back because my hip flexors are super angry and now I can’t stand up). I see Jeremy almost weekly for pre-hab/maintenance.
