I’ve done most of my trailer riding out in the suburbs of Falls Church and never had an issue. I don’t think they’re prime targets for theft. Too bulky, small target audience, and lower dollar value than some bikes.

I lock the bike, and sometimes lock the helmets.

How long are you planning on locking it for? U-lock the trailer wheels to the frame?

I was thinking about going into DC for a coffee and pastry run with the little one. The model I have has QR wheels that come right out when you press the center axle button. Admittedly, it would be hard to take it anywhere without collapsing it and lifting it, but if someone had a pickup truck, it would be quick work. Maybe a cable through the handlebar on the back would do the trick. It is too bad they didn’t create some sort of frame attached loop that could be used as part of the design.

That said, I may just be over-thinking it and a tad too paranoid.

I would also think that a cable lock through trailer wheels & bike wheel would be some deterrent, if need be.

When I lock up my chariot I run a cable through the trailer frame, with one eyelet looped through the other so I keep most of the cables length, and then lock it up with the rest of my bike using main lock (which for me is a bordo folding lock, but I’ve done it with a ulock as well). If you don’t have quite enough length to run the cable to your ulock you can also carry an extra padlock and lock the trailer to your seatstays, locking your bike up as normal.

It is most definitely not going to stop anyone who is serious about taking the trailer, but if you’re just looking for a “keeping the honest people honest” deterrent. Fits through wheels easily. Not very expensive.

I posted this pic a few days before I saw this thread. For me I use a 3 foot chain lock (stylish worn around my 36″ waist). Locks bike and trailer.
In this pic you can sort of see it going through both the bike frame and the trailer’s top triangle.
