Hey everybody! This Sunday is the time change and BikeArlington is doing our annual lights for bikes giveaway, but this year we’ve changed the name to:

    Lighten Up, Arlington!

We need volunteers to come help us give out stuff. So here are the details:

    • Monday, 11/7 – Rosslyn Bikeometer (corner of Lynn and Lee Highway)
    • Wednesday 11/9 – Columbia Pike (intersection of W&OD Trail and Columbia Pike, by the Learners Loop Park)

    4:30PM – 7:00PM, both days.

With the time change, we expect that many people will be caught out on their ride home from work without lights. We’ll be giving away small “be-seen” blinky lights and lots of reflective gear (vests, pant straps, reflective zipper pulls). We’ll be joined by our friends from WalkArlington and some other folks from other County organizations too.

Temps are looking pretty nice, so in expecting a large number of people riding and walking by we could use your help as volunteers! Feel free to stop by on your commute home and hang out for awhile. We’ll likely have leftovers that we’ll want to give out to Forum members who want to vanquish ninjas on their own as well.

Let us know if you can make it!

P.S. Crystal City BID is doing a similar event on Friday.

I will probably stop by the Columbia Pike location on my way home from work for an hour or so. I am an early commuter, so if you need help setting up, let me know. 😎

I’ll try to be at the Columbia Pike stop but I’m a pretty late commuter.

My dog turns into a pumpkin if I’m not home by 4:30, but if I see you there setting up when I ride by, I’ll stop for a sec. How’s that for helpful, eh?

Preschool pickup will make me a no-show. Pictures of that headlight, please?

I’ll try to help out on one of the days. The Alexandria BPAC will be doing a light giveaway next week, so as long as the 2 don’t overlap, I’ll be there. Living in Alexandria and working in Arlington, I must support both jurisdictions!

Does your dog Husker Dü Dü in the house if you don’t get home on time?

False. My ability to reference punk rock bands that I am too young to reasonably be aware of is quite clever. I was 4 years old when Zen Arcade was released.

I might stop by the Rosslyn stop for a bit. I’d like to grab a handful of leg bands to hand out to trail ninjas.

The event made ArlNow. Of course someone quickly turned the comments to cyclists not stopping at stop signs.

You wanna see some real scofflaws? Check out a red arrow lane on 66 or 495 sometime. But that’s different, because cars.
