Lifeline 100 – October 16, 2016

I rode it last year. The weather was right around freezing when it started and never went much over 45 that day with a few sprinkles, but overall wasn’t a bad ride. I don’t recall any bad vehicle traffic roads other than the route does take you up the main road from the waterfront in downtown Annapolis. The rest stops were fine and the last offered warm potatoes. I did think the road markings could’ve been better. If you’ve never ridden the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail or have always wanted to ride around Annapolis I’d say it’s worth signing up for it.

I’m tempted… I’ll echo Dave that riding on the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail is great. If you can’t make this century but still want to ride the B&A and enjoy Annapolis by bike, I’m sharing the route I rode with Komorebi and LeprosyStudyGroup from Crystal City to Annapolis and up the B&A before taking the MARC back to DC:

Lifeline 100 has been on my radar since their inaugural event in 2014. That year we rode the metric distance. We lucked out with spectacular crisp fall weather, but the challenge that time was headwinds. Peter and I had the advantage of being on the tandem, and we found a lot of people hugging our rear wheel for a wind break. A few people who rode the full century were pretty worked by the time they got to the finish line picnic.

Conditions are variable, of course, but the event is exceedingly well run and the beneficiaries of the ride fee are all worthy organizations. I joined BikeAAA when I was still living in Anne Arundel county, and they’re doing a great job with bike advocacy and education.

Great route with a mix of trails and scenic roads, friendly checkpoints, fun ride. I haven’t committed yet myself, but you may see a few NatGeo jerseys there – say hello!

Hmm. So this is the same day as the Clarksville CX races. I don’t race myself, but I like to go 1-2x season to watch and cheer (it’s a lot of fun).
If I go to the races, I will ride there, c. 35 miles, and back. So not a century but more than a metric.
Choices..choices:
A) Lifeline Century with its opportunity to ride around Annapolis
Ride to Clarksville and watch other bike riders get all muddy and tired, and drink beer.
