ParticipantThat’s sweet. It’s like a aftermarket light set-up for a tuner car. Do you have a link to a website to buy such lights?
Thanks,

ParticipantVery slick looking rig. Great color too, not a color that is normally part of the background noise of car lights and hopefully more noticeable. Do these stay on your bike all the time or are they attached as needed for night time riding?

ParticipantYou didn’t happen to run into a bunch of people giving away free bike lights to people who didn’t have them at the Custis/Mt. Vernon/Key Bridge back in December, did you?
There can’t be two of you out there? Can there?

I’m using two 9.5″ ones. VERY inexpensive.Riley: I actually picked green because it’s the color your eye responds to fastest. You’ll almost sub-consciously see me before you actually SEE me see me. Make sense?
The strips live on the bike full-time via. zip ties since it’s my every-day commuter. I’ve attached pictures of version 1.0 of the setup. This was the test-fitting, and after a trial run, I replaced the tacky green zip ties with matching blues and tucked everything away nicely. The setup is clean and stealth now.Tim: No, but that would be awesome. I’ve told some people at work about my setup, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are others out there. I think someone also sells a $100+ kit to do this, but I built it for about $30 with shipping.

ParticipantHello Tim —
That was probably me. I will take a picture tonight when the sun goes down so you can get the full effect. My light is amber (I read, perhaps accurately or not, that amber is the one color that is legal in every jurisdiction, and I figured I am riding in so many jurisdictions, better to be safe than sorry and/or do a major research project on vehicle lighting regulations).
I got mine here: http://rockthebike.com/lights/downlowglow
It has a rechargeable battery and fastens on with zip ties, too. It was such a nuisance to get it on I think it would have been easier to build it from scratch, but your mileage may vary depending on your frame.

ParticipantOops, I stand corrected, I didn’t notice your photo Tim. That’s not me, but I think I’ve seen that guy, too.
I will send you a picture of my bike later.

ParticipantVery cool. I think I’m going to steal this idea for my night-time riding. Was it someone in this thread I saw riding down 15th St towards the 14th St Bridge? Or else there’s yet another slammed Honda Civic of a bike out there (and I mean that in the nicest way).

ParticipantLove the LED stips. These bikes are practically parade-ready. I also mean that in the nicest way.

Participantdefinitely different – in a good way.
I thought these were interesting, seem to get mixed reviews. Have seen them in person, are really cool. http://www.monkeylectric.com/

ParticipantSorry for my humble photography skills — here is the bike with the glow tube (mine is actually florescent, not LED). I also took some closeups so you can see what it looks like installed and where the battery goes.

Wondering about green, though… awhile back, police vehicles switched to blue because it distinguishes them from other emergency vehicles, and the frequency is shorter than red (and green too). In low-light conditions when your eyes are responding to low-frequency wave lengths, it seems a high frequency input would prompt an even faster response. LEDs are effective for the same reason due to their light propagation properties. Looking at the flex-LED website, maybe I’ll order a few strings of greens and blues.

ParticipantWow, I have serious LED envy. I love the look, it is interesting and practical. Let me preface this statement to be sure you all know I am not being sarcastic, I really love the glow. It has a sort of super-hero meets Power Ranger attitude going on. But in a very cool way. Wonder if they come in pink?
