I did this ride last year, and I can vouch for its being both fun and informative. April and the rest of the library staff did a great job organizing the ride.

Fun enough to be worth riding my bike home in the rain from Bikenetic tomorrow (I am on the tail end of a cold, which is one of the reasons I did not pick it up earlier this week – they actually finished the repairs on Monday) – and then riding in 20MPH winds on Saturday? When we COULD be going to the REI grand opening and getting swag?

Well, that depends on how much you enjoy riding in the rain and the wind, and how recovered you are from your cold. (I hope that you’re back at 100% soon.) But last year’s tour took us to parts of Alexandria that I hadn’t visited before, gave me an opportunity to see the fall foliage at Fort Ward, taught me some interesting bits of Alexandria history, and gave me insight into new initiatives at the library. All great fun, in my opinion.

As for the swag — I don’t know about the plans for this year’s ride, but there was swag at the end of last year’s ride. Everyone got a coupon for a free popsicle at the Dairy Godmother (delish!), discounts at other stores, and a raffle ticket. Forum member scorchedearth won one of the raffle prizes, if I recall correctly.
