ParticipantHere is a short video (no audio) that I shot yesterday showing a couple of the zig-zags and the drop-off on the path. The video ends at the Braddock Road entrance to the path.
The project manager for the city sent me an email today telling me that she is meeting with the contractor on Monday to see what fencing can be moved to allow access, while still accommodating the final construction.

Participantmy guess on the zig zags is that there’s not enough room for path + exercise pad + tree/grass strip on the grade so they eliminated the tree/grass where there’s an exercise pad, but wanted generally to keep the trees/grass between the road and the path. Which, I’m also guessing, makes stormwater management slightly better, plus eventually tall(-ish) trees on both side of the path. (the orientation of Main Line boulevard is pretty much perpendicular to the arc of the sun, so trees on either side would provide shade some of the time)

ParticipantI rode it today. This is a great addition to the local trail network, although just a little too conveniently close to the Sugar Shack.

ParticipantAccording to the project manager, this section of the trail will be completed early in May. Planting, site furniture, irrigation and lighting will be installed by the end of April. The final top coat of asphalt and lining will be installed the first week of May, weather permitting.

ParticipantHere’s a video I just finished of the Potomac Yard Trail. I covered between King St Metro and Crystal City to show how interconnected the corridor has become with the addition of this trail and the completion of the connector path between Main Line Blvd and Braddock Road.

Since you shot your video, the paving on Braddock Road has been completed.

I was almost going to reschedule shooting my footage for another weekend when I saw the truck there, but I decided to leave it in there. I do like the new asphalt, though (love that smooth asphalt).

ParticipantFinal paving of the trail has been delayed to resolve an on-going drainage problem. The contractor has not provided a schedule for when the work will be completed.

ParticipantA new contractor is going to be grading a swale on the west side of the trail between the trail and the athletic fields (to the left of the picture) during the week of August 24-28. The contractor is not anticipating any impact to the trail during the grading.

No date has been set for the final paving of the trail.

ParticipantThe Potomac Yard Trail has been extended by about 200 feet north of Glebe Road. However, it doesn’t appear that it will be of much use for a while.
Looking north from Glebe Road, there is a green chain link fence blocking the path.
