There is a City survey up for the King Bradlee project
The survey closes on the 20th. There will be additional opportunities for engagement later.
Here are the BPAC asks, with talking points
A sidewalk on the north east side, for the entire length
Improved crossing treatments
Protected bike lanes the entire length, with a connection via Menokin to the Van Dorn bike lanes
Improved pedestrian access to bus stops.
Remove slip lanes
Reduce speedsThis is a place where many people currently walk, and many more would walk if it were safer and more comfortable – but currently crossing King Street is intimidating and unsafe, and the lack of any pedestrian accommodation on the north east side limits some pedestrian movements.
Bradlee is a walkable destination for many residents of both Alexandria and Arlington, and poor pedestrian facilities should not be a barrier.
In addition to being close to the Alexandria City High School, Bradlee is close to the newly expanded Minnie Howard Campus, and many students will be using the bus stops there. Walking, especially access to the bus stops, should be as safe as possible.
This area is an important one for biking. Bradlee itself is a destination for people on bikes shopping and doing errands. Many people in adjoining parts of both Alexandria and Arlington bike for both recreation and transportation.
The buffered bike lanes on King Street are on the other side of the high school, buffered lanes on Van Dorn are a block away, and conventional bike lanes on Kenwood nearby. Protected bike lanes, for all ages and abilities, would improve the connectivity of our bike network.
