Kidical Mass DC – Arlington Meet-up Ride !!! This Sunday 9/14 10am

Kidical Mass has exploded in the DC area over the past 2 years, and the first two groups are coming together to celebrate! With cupcakes! This Sunday, September 14, Kidical Mass Arlington and Kidical Mass DC will meet in the middle (well, at the Washington Monument). Kidical Mass Arlington will meet at the LBJ Grove at 10am, then roll across the river to meet with our DC counterparts, who will be starting at Stanton Park on Capitol Hill, also at 10am. After cupcakes and a roll around the Monument, we’ll each return to our starting points. All are welcome – with and without kids. *The Arlington ride could especially use kidless riders to help marshal our ride from LBJ Memorial to DC, as we’ll be on the 27 trail, which has two tricky road crossings.*

There are those times in life when two forces rocket towards each other, only to meet in the middle with an incredible explosion of AWESOME CUTENESS and CUPCAKES. On Sunday, September 14th, the incredible adorability of Kidical Mass Arlington will cross the bridge and join forces with the amazing delightfulness of Kidical Mass DC to … circle the Washington Monument. And eat cupcakes. It will be awesome.

When: Sunday, September 14, 10:00am (roll out 10:15am)

Meet & End : LBJ Grove, on the Pentagon side of the wooden bridge (Right by the Columbia Island Marina)

Parking: Either in the Columbia Island Marina / LBJ Memorial parking lot, accessible from the southbound GW Parkway OR in the LBJ Grove Parking lot accessible from Boundary Channel Drive on the Pentagon Reservation.

This ride will be long — 3+ miles EACH WAY, but it will be awesome, and there will be a break in the middle. We’ll meet at Columbia Island Marina at 10am, bike across the Memorial Bridge, meet our friends and cupcakes, meet, eat and be merry, then return via the 14th Street Bridge.

Thanks to everyone who came out. That was a really, really, really fun ride. I confess I had moments of nervousness with the crossings, and with the amount of cupcakes, but everything worked out perfectly, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group.

And extra big thanks to Starduster for being the escort-extraordinaire! Having someone to help guide us over those crossings was key. Thanks!

It was a really fun ride! It was great to listen to the kids as they rode along exclaiming as they passed each monument or cool feature. “ooh, look at this river/bridge/tunnel/Washington monument (or “the pencil” as it is known to my youngest)” Thanks so much for organizing.
