ParticipantSorry for your unscheduled flight. Don’t forget the eye protection even on gloomy days (and nights)!

ParticipantSorry to hear about your deceleration trauma. Sometimes it is good to take a few days off after a fall-down-go-boom. The bike needing to be fixed kinda helps enforce that. You’ll be back on in no time.

On another note – I totally saw Dirt huffin’ it across the TR Bridge (66-East) this morning.
I was on a bagel delivery mission.
Rock on!

ParticipantOuch, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hope nothing human was hurt. My own “fly over the handlebars” incident last summer taught me the wisdom of always wearing gloves (even on CaBi), a helmet, and polychromatic, protective glasses. So yeah, I’m the one technically wearing “sunglasses” in the middle of the night.

Why? I virtually always wear glasses, but I wear clear glasses whenever it’s too dark for sunglasses. I never thought about polarized glasses.

ParticipantOpps, I meant tint-variable or polychromatic glasses, not polarized.
I use polychromatic glasses simply so I don’t have to carry two pairs of glasses with me. They turn dark when it is sunny and revert back to (almost) clear when it is dark. I wear contacts to see but the glasses to protect my eyes from the wind, bugs, branches, etc. I use the Tifosi fotomatic brand which are lightweight and relatively inexpensive. My only complaint with them is that they fog up when I stop riding (e.g., at an intersection); I need to find out if I can apply anti-fogging spray without harming the original coating.
You can get polarized glasses for prescription glasses as well.

I used to work with a guy who’d cuss every time he came inside during the summer because it took a couple of minutes before he could see anything.

ParticipantAck, sucks. Hope you + bike get well soon.
Incidentally I lost my favourite pair of sunglasses on this morning’s ride in. They were old Performance house brand photochromic ones I bought in 2006, cheap but I loved the fit and I’ve worn them almost every day continuously for several years (biking or not). I hooked them into my jersey at one point when it was too wet and shortly before arrival noticed they weren’t there. They’re probably in pieces on the Custis or in Georgetown now. Waaah!
