There is a public meeting tomorrow night on the Kennedy Center expansion, here is info about the plan, from http://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectId=48203:
The link is incorrect (the colon got incorporated into it). Here’s the corrected link: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/projectHome.cfm?projectId=48203
I like the way it looks, especially the placement of rows of lavender that are sure to greet my nostrils every time I cross the bridge into DC
Also, I would recommend to everyone that they participate in the Environmental Assessment (comment window is open until November 10) because part of the plan involves creating a crossing of the Rock Creek Parkway connecting the Rock Creek Park Trail MUP to the Kennedy Center and Roosevelt Bridge. Some of the alternatives shown involve pedestrian bridges (GWMP at Memorial Circle, are you listening?), nothing, and an at-grade crossing (I assume it would have a pedestrian light like the other RCP crossing to the northwest of the Kennedy Center).
The Environmental Assessment page is here: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?parkID=427&projectID=48203&documentID=61929

Well, then, to get rid of that colon, we need some colon blow.

ParticipantThe floating pavilion is out. But the pedestrian bridge over Rock Creek Parkway remains in the plans.

That floating pavilion thing was just never going to..er..float. I bet the bridge goes next. Without the pavilion there’s less justification for it.

ParticipantA bunch of design pictures are online.
http://greatergreaterwashington.org/post/26702/federal-review-pushes-the-kennedy-centers-new-buildings-to-dry-land/I looked closely and I don’t see any obvious accommodation for connecting through kennedy center land from the RCP bridge to the Roosevelt bridge.
If I was a Kennedy Center board member, I would probably try to discourage cut-through bicycle traffic. Doesn’t mix well with the (depending on the night) black-tie or hip artistic vibe they will be cultivating in the garden amongst the new pavilions.Because of the changes already, they have to redo some of the impact work, so I imagine there’s a way for the bicycle community to advocate for better support than what is shown.
