    On the Holmes Run Trail:

    – northernmost stream crossing (closest to Columbia Pike) – north side has a large pile of rock/sand which could be difficult to get around
    – 2nd northernmost stream crossing – water is moving slower but is a lot deeper (at least 1′)

While it’s just been just light rain so far this morning, on the W&OD the Wilson Blvd underpass at Bluemont is already flooded, several of the 4MRT slab bridge/fords from Glencarlyn to Columbia Pike are flooded, and the West Glebe underpass on the 4MRT has a 20 foot stretch of scummy, muddy water about two inches deep. In the two hours between 5 and 7 am I saw not a single other cyclist and was #7 on the Rosslyn Monolith at 5:20 am. It was nice to have the lighting at the underpass of eternal darkness at milepost 0 under I-66 on the Custis Trail and the new lights under I-395 on the 4MRT.

    Chris,

Thanks for another great trail report. Please don’t leave. (Though I know that you have to eventually.)

Paving work has begun on sections of the Holmes Run Trail. A crew was paving the section just west of the Metro bridge to Jordan Street. Tomorrow the crew will work on the section of the trail by North Ripley.

For those of you in northern PG County (College Park, Greenbelt, etc), the underpass under the railroad tracks at Lake Artemesia is closed—standing water and police tape blocking it off. Given that the pedestrian bride is closed due to the crane accident a while back, this means that the nearest crossings between East/West Highway (MD-410) and Greenbelt Metro are Paint Branch Parkway and College Park Metro.

Oh, and Greenbelt Road/MD-193. You know, just in case your day is going too well and you need to fix that.

To be clear, I dislike the news of not having a suitable detour due to the pedestrian bridge being out.

From looking at Google Maps’ Street View, here’s what the alternatives look like:
    – the northern alternative is Greenbelt Rd – sidewalks narrow, not suitable
    – the southern alternative is Paint Branch Pkwy – south side sidewalk is wider and has a barrier separating it from the road, seems feasible
