ParticipantThose? First batch of lane barricades for a neighborhood festival parade that ran from the Nauck neighborhood to Four Mile Run & Walter Reed Dr. We can upon that yesterday around noontime as I led my Papillon Cycles coffee shop ride through there.

ParticipantSo so so…. if you are a Bike Friendly Community, you
(a) Plow the bike trails during the winter
(b) Repair the Intersection of Doom, or
(c) Leave Shit all over the trail?Picture taken at 6.30 pm ish on 4MR. Seriously.

Participantlol @arlingtonians complaining that their trail clearing crew is messy.
in vdot-land, trail clearing consists of snapping branches off with ones’ face.

ParticipantHigh above the Custis Trail there is a dead-fall tree spanning the gap between the retaining wall and parking structure just west of Quincy. No telling how long it will remain suspended if not removed.

I agree completely. On the way into work yesterday there were tree simply laying across this trail from the clearing work . In theory Arlington treats cycling like other forms of transportation. In reality the County thinks nothing of appropriating (and allowing private interests — such as construction sites to appropriate) bicycle lanes in a manner that would never be allowed for the lanes serving supposedly evil private vehicles.

ParticipantThe situation on that bit of trail was even worse (if possible) this morning @ 9:30-ish. The tree cutting/disposal crew (7-8 guys?) were all busily sitting on the retaining wall, the machinery was still there and about 100 meters of trail were absolutely covered with bits of tree branches, bark, leaves, etc.
Hopefully the work will be cleared up by this evening, but given the [lack of] pace I witnessed this morning, I doubt it.

ParticipantColour me amazed… Amazed… There were four work trucks, and workers actually working on the power conduits. Possibly the tunnel of eternal darkness may have working lights? Is this a SteveO production?
