ParticipantThere’s been a dead raccoon in the Gallows Rd bike lane since Monday, I think. It’s not in the way, but good lordy that stench.
I’ve reported it to VDOT.

Both mattress and box spring (queen size, it appeared) were on the bridge as I went though around 9. I almost stopped to take a picture and jokingly post it in the “I saw this deal” thread, but I needed to get to work.

I was waiting to hear tires screech, and fenders bend as cars were veering at the last minute to avoid the bedroom set. Crazy.

The raccoon’s still there, still stinks, but now someone’s dumped a bunch of sand/salt/evil powdery substance on it. Progress!

Pretty sure tying a mattress to the top of your car is illegal* in Virginia for this exact reason…
*Not sure the exact law, but I’ve had multiple friends get ticketed or cited for doing this. Something about not being allowed to transport a mattress or any large item in a non secure way, which VA police use as a blanket rule for not being allowed to just strap a mattress or dresser to the top of your car.

ParticipantIf Dirt doesn’t post a 14th St Bridge Bike Power Nap photo I’ll be disappointed.

So this wouldn’t be allowed? Darn.

ParticipantJust in case you get tired while riding to work Friday morning on the 14th Street Bridge:
the box spring looks to be in good condition since it’s still wrapped in plastic
…but the mattress ain’t looking too good
Side note: what a**h*** thought it was a good idea to just toss them into the bike path? They should be fined for littering!

Failed attempt at business expansion, or mimicry?

What’s the big deal? Cyclists are totally normal people. Like, totally, totally regular normal. Really nothing different about them at all! Seriously! What’s your problem with cyclists, anyway?!? Jerk!

Well, they could just be floating down the Potomac.

I was very tempted to return them to whence they came, in other words, tossing them back into the roadway.
“Oh, I’m sorry, these things were blocking MY way.”

I keep thinking about doing that to temporary road work signs that get put in bike lanes and sidewalks when the work is being done in the general vehicle lanes.
