If you ever want to wreck TwoWheels but make it look like an accident, I’d highly recommend the wooden bridges on the ART after a flooding event. They’ll be covered with mud that is as slippery as ice and is also the same color as the bridge, so you won’t know that the mud is there.
My knee isn’t even bruised! I’m actually disappointed.

I’m actually relieved. My second biggest fear in life is doing something on a bike that hurts someone else.

Yeah, that section of the Potomac Yard Trail has been a PITA recently since it’s much easier to just take the lane on Potomac Ave rather than take the awkward detour that involves waiting for the unnecessarily long light at Glebe.
When I’m heading north on Potomac Ave. Trail, I normally switch to the street when I reach the S. Glebe intersection – when the wind conditions are reasonable anyway. My least favorite segment of the street (northbound) is between the cinema and the start of the bike lane – there’s like a half-foot drop off the right edge of the road. It was on that segment where the wind gusts were intense enough to either put me in front of cars, or blow me off the road. My coworker advised me to truly take the lane – ride in the middle – when it’s windy, and too bad for any driver who doesn’t want to spare the 30 seconds until one reaches the bike lane.
It’s either that or try to cross Potomac Ave. to the temporary trail (can be difficult as the temp trail does not connect to the intersection due to construction), ride the temp trail to the 35th St. intersection, and try to cross Potomac Ave. there to get to the bike lane, waiting for a light change that may never come, as it doesn’t seem to detect a cyclist.

My bike was okay too, so #1 biggest fear also avoided.

Of course… my biggest fear is that anything at all would ever happen to any one of your bikes, whether I caused it or not.
Also, I’m glad that you came away almost entirely unscathed. I think you somehow avoided getting muddy too. Truly elite bike skills.

One of my favorite moments of the ride was when ChampionTier, who hadn’t even come to a complete stop from his fall, yelled out “Is my bike OK?” With 4 different spills yesterday, I’m so glad that nobody was hurt.

Luckily it was one of those slow-motion falls where your internal monologue goes: “falling…falling…wait, we can land on our fee…nope…here comes the ground” and you have a chance to lessen the impact. All I know is that if Judd says “watch out for [anything]” I’m gonna get hyper-vigilant really quick. Glad you all were there, though…you know…for support and stuff.
