There was an NPS worker cleaning up the glass around 830a and I pointed him to the large pile north of the north airport overpass, so hopefully all is clean on the way home.
That’s a plus. I’ve been reporting it every day or two and so far a good portion of the glass I’ve reported hasn’t been cleaned up. I hope they’re able to get more consistent about cleaning it.

Please also keep reporting to the Park Police: 703-285-1000.
The more reporting, the more likely they’ll allocate resources towards investigating/capturing whomever is doing it.

I guess that nothing much has happened this month.
A few things to report. I will do them individually.
Does anyone know why they introduced a very short detour just west of the Belmont Ridge Road intersection on the W&OD? I know of course that they are building an overpass for BR Road, but this goes around a hole west of the intersection. They even paved the detour and painted a line.
The short detour had been eliminated when I was there yesterday (Friday).

ParticipantTree down blocking the Custis Trail between the corkscrew and the Spout Run overpass. If going east, you can get off the trail after the corkscrew, go through the Lee Highway shops parking lot past the Giant and then take the ramp back on the Custis.

Reported this via Arlington web pages – someone else also reported it in a slightly different spot (and probably more accurate than mine).
It is possible to go through it. Person ahead of me went over it; heading east, one goes far right then through it; neither are great fi you are wide, tall or heavy. The detour suggested above also good.

ParticipantAside from the aforementioned tree on the Custis behind Lyon Village shopping center, there are two more.
One on the Custis on the westbound part of the trail, just west of the underpass under N. Glebe.
One on the entrance to the Custis from N Calvert street (just east of the spout run overpass). This was I noticed last week too.
I reported all three via the Arlington Co. web pages.

ParticipantCan someone post if the Custis is passible for the evening commute? I plan to use it early tomorrow and want to know if I should plan an alternate route.

It was fine.
BTW, the wood on The Citizens Bridge on the W&OD is being replaced. While this is happening the bridge is single tracked. :p

ParticipantI rode the Rock Creek Trail yesterday afternoon–there were several spots between Calvert and P Street where Friday’s storm had left sand or mud covering the trail, sometimes a bit deep. In three or four spots, a rider (or even a walker) had to detour off the path on to the surrounding grass. Areas north of the zoo were fine (though Rock Creek itself was still a bit of a raging river rather than a somnolent creek in some areas).

ParticipantPotomac Ave. Trail was extended north past S. Glebe.
However, it abruptly ends without a connection to the street.
Luckily there seems to be enough would-be drivers on summer break that I was able to ride over the grass to get on Potomac Ave, without waiting.

Yeah, that section of the Potomac Yard Trail has been a PITA recently since it’s much easier to just take the lane on Potomac Ave rather than take the awkward detour that involves waiting for the unnecessarily long light at Glebe.

ParticipantRetroactive-but-now-irrelevant (or as we say in the biz, overtaken by events) warning…bridges on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail are very slick!!

Except at the underpass just north of the Klingle Road bridge, where it’s covered with a thick layer of sand. Hopefully, when they clean up the trail, they won’t just pile the sand up along the trail. This leads to more standing water after each rain storm.
A year or so ago, my buddy and I got some shovels and dug out a nice drainage path. I was pleased to see that there hadn’t been any flooding or accumulation of mud and sand there until this weekend’s rain. We might just have to do that again…

If you ever want to wreck TwoWheels but make it look like an accident, I’d highly recommend the wooden bridges on the ART after a flooding event. They’ll be covered with mud that is as slippery as ice and is also the same color as the bridge, so you won’t know that the mud is there.

Also, if you ever want to wreck ChampionTier just tell him that there is a dangerous crack somewhere and he will run into it before you finish the sentence.
