ParticipantI’ll try to get a pic of the one at Quinn to email Monday. (Don’t have a smartphone so it’s a bit more involved.)

My experience with “top men” is that even when badgered, they still sometimes fail to accomplish the recommended tasks. And if they only hear once, they sometimes forget or de-prioritize. They hear from me on occasion already, so fresh voices may be more influential.
I saw Larry Marcus today and he said he’s going to ride his bike back up that stretch of the Custis on his way back to the office, so he’ll have experienced it in person.

The top men moniker should be used sparingly! Don’t dilute it.

Too late.

More of an issue going downhill, so hopefully he will make that observation.

ParticipantThis is probably not the correct thread because it doesn’t pertain to a trail condition per se but I noticed early this morning that the water fountain on the W&OD where it intersects the Custis trail has been removed. Does anyone know if it is being replaced?

ParticipantCAUTION: At the W&OD crossing at Wiehle Ave. there is a new concrete landing area in the island at the center of the road. If you stay to the center of the landing area you are fine. However, it you cross to the left or right of center you will hit a 1 to 2-inch concrete curb. I was crossing this afternoon looking left and right for cars and was surprised when I hit the curb.

Not sure, but in the meantime, there is a water fountain and a water bottle filler just up the Custis near the picnic area before you go under 66.

I realize that although I rarely use that one..
I suspect that they are replacing the one at the intersection with an all-weather one.

So, yes, please pile on.trails@arlingtonva.us is one place to send.
The Arlington app is another.
Bike/ped managers: dgoodman@arlingtonva.us and dpatton@arlingtonva.us. They heard about this on Monday, but I’m not sure exactly what they may be able to accomplish themselves other than elevating to their management
The head of the streetlights program, Santosh Neupane: sneupane@arlingtonva.us (good luck with him!)
A truly “top man” would be the County Manager – countymanager@arlingtonva.usIs someone has some photos to share, that might be helpful as well.
For anyone who hasn’t ridden through here recently, here is a pic (because I now have a smart phone!) of where the post is marked to go at Quinn. As you can see, it’s just to the right side of the ramp on the downhill side. I realize it’s easy enough to miss, but people go fast downhill and the ramp can get narrow if two people try to use it at the same time, and of course there are shaky Cabi and other riders going downhill too. It’s an accident waiting to happen to someone–whether it’s “their fault” or not is irrelevant when the design is flawed to begin with.

ParticipantIt’s such an odd location to choose. Why not a few feet down the hill, and closer to the street (like the light pole in the background)?
Do you need us to share with ArlCo?

I wrote all the people that SteveO put in his post, but the more people that comment, the less it looks like just one more crazy person complaining to the county about nothing.

How new is that bottle filler? I just noticed it last night after reading about it here (and just before I saw you).

I think it went in towards the end of 2014? Can anyone confirm?
