This morning, heading north on the 15th St. cycletrack, a jogger and I were on a collision course because he was in the (his) left-hand lane. I suppose he was thinking he should stay left, the same as he would on the roadway. I viewed it as a MUP where everyone should stay right.

We got past each other, no collision and no angry words, but wadya think: if you’re going to jog on a cycletrack, stay right or stay left?

Is someone going to bring this list to WABA? That might be one way to help get a dialogue going. Some of us here are both cyclists and runners, but I doubt that any running specialists are going to be reading this forum.

I wouldn’t expect WABA to get involved in this because it would mean that they were officially condoning/supporting an illegal activity. I think this would work better as an unofficial guide much in the same line as for jaywalking in general where it acts as a follow-up to any suggestions for alternate routes and such.

The way I imagine one would use this list: stress to a runner that running in the bike lane/cycletrack is generally illegal (in the average situation), but if they should find themselves using the bike lane/cycletrack anyways, give them a list of suggestions that can at least make it safer.

We could have a list of 11 different situational items to remember, or just one: don’t run in the bike lanes.

Could you post some video recordings of your attempts at convincing the runners?
