Thank you for all the hard work on this.

On that note, I figured if anyone would get a little chuckle out of the placement of the NPS service truck today, it’d be you:

    Thank you.

I have occasionally had to detour around PP vehicles parked in that crosswalk. There was one there in the photos I posted on Feb 1st. I’m hoping we have begun a process were we can play the role of one of the NPS’s biggest advocates for funding and priorities for infrastructure. As they improve, we get better cycling conditions.

Got this back from the NPS this afternoon.

“Thank you for your email and compiling the comments from the area cyclists. As you mentioned, we have made some small improvements such as removing the traffic cones from the crosswalk, and just recently removing the stake and rope fence along the path.

We plan on making some improvements to the signage in the near-term to better direct bicyclists to the National Mall and Virginia. We will also further study some of the other suggestions such as the crosswalk configuration, path width, and path configuration.”

I’ve been out of town for the past several days (have I recently mentioned what a wonderful place the Philadelphia airport is to be delayed?) and hope to check it out on Friday (yum – coffee!). I think we have started on the journey to strengthen collaboration with the NPS.

Thanks to all that shared their thoughts and ideas.

Had a little back and forth this week with the NPS on the traffic cones (my personal albatross) at Jefferson. The leadership of the Park Police for that area is now involved and they have embraced the back line (closest to the memorial) of the crosswalk that is parallel to East Basin Drive. I can live with it as it keeps all the ramps clear of cones.
