ParticipantI’m down in Orlando and report that the few bike lanes all seem to be ice free. Alas, I am confined to a steel box.

ParticipantAny reports on the MVT? Someone on the Capital Crescent Facebook site wants to know.

Good between 4MRT and 14th Street bridge, but that’s all I know.

ParticipantTrail report for Wednesday 17 January. starting about 7:40am
Custis from Harrison to W&OD to 4MRT to Eads to 18thCustis covered in snow, but very passable – many cyclists had used it already
W&OD deeper snow, but still easy to ride on. Much thinner towards Columbia pike and then very thin with wind-driven slightly thicker patched from Columbia Pike to 4MRT. When thinner, it was crunchier.
4MRT was plowed from Shirlington to beyond Eads (presume MVT, but I couldn’t see that far). All wet too. If it dries, it will be great, otherwise it might turn into an icy mess, especially for the underpasses.
PBLs on Eads and 18th were good.January 17, 2018 at 2:42 pm #1081950TwoWheelsDC
ParticipantAbout a half inch of snow on the DC section of the CCT. Might be suboptimal on skinny tires, but those on gravel or CX tires will have a fun ride. Unless, like me, you’re riding north into the headwind this morning…

Confirming on 4mrt to Eads and Eads PBL. Eads PBL was comfortable all the way to 12th, similar for the Long Bridge lanes, the sidewalk on Boundary Channel (I wasn’t going to take the lane into the headwind), the path to the MVT, and the MVT over the Humpback, the 14th Street bridge, the paths around the Jefferson.
Maine Avenue PBL note. The PBL was not treated (but rideable) while the sidewalk WAS completely clear of snow. This meant that there were NO pedestrians walking in the PBL, for perhaps the first time?

It was unplowed this morning on the Maryland side of the CCT, though service vehicles seemed to be assembling possibly to clear for the ride home.

ParticipantThe trail part of the MBT this morning (around 8AM) was untreated but passable. Slick in the usual spots (e.g., the R Street zigzag), but overall fine so long as you don’t ride like an idiot and take it easy. Besides – there’s not enough snow cover to make riding like an idiot fun anyway

Custis in the other direction: I started to get on behind Lyon Village, saw the snow, decided to stay on Lee because I was late and didn’t want to worry about ice (and there were hardly any cars).
Custis spurt by Mom’s was pavement, rest of Custis to IoD, then connector to TR Island, TR Island and TR bridge were covered in a layer of entirely ride-able snow.
Streets in DC were 95% pavement.January 17, 2018 at 3:47 pm #1081957Erin Potter

ParticipantVery nice across Memorial Bridge pretty much all the way to Pentagon and then Boundary Channel Drive (actually, I was going the opposite direction). I wonder if NPS are using some sort of snow removal machine since it looked like tire tracks along the edge of the path. Such a great improvement over years past.

ParticipantArlington Parks and Recreation staff let me know via email that they’re back out with snow clearing equipment, so Arlington trails should be in solid shape for afternoon/evening adventures and commutes. Send them all the thank you notes! Or send them to be, and I can forward.

What’s the e-mail address for Arlington Parks and Rec? Happy to send them an e-mail since I benefit so much from the trails being cleared.

ParticipantSince the schools had a two-hour delay, I rode in on the “late shift” today. Some of the roads remained untreated and were a bit slippery, but overall the conditions were okay. I was thrilled to pass trail-clearing vehicles on both the Custis and the Capital Crescent. I yelled my thank-you’s as loud as I could.
